Hey there
It’s getting warm in Switzerland this week, with temperatures about to climb to 33-35ยฐC until at least Wednesday. Not sure how normal these temperatures are for June, even though I personally like it a lot.
In other news, they are adding an additional floor to the building our office is located in, which means heavy (heavy!) construction is going on right above my head for the last two weeks now. So much for concentrated work, I guess ๐ซฃ Looking forward to when my desk’s not shaking all day anymore.
Anyway, here are a few links to some interesting things.
๐ธ picu goes e-commerce
Selling images in picu is something we’ve wanted to make possible for a very long time, and two weeks ago we finally launched it to the public! Set prices per package or single-images, accept payments directly via Stripe, support for taxes and different currencies, all baked into your proofing workflow. I’m super excited about this one and look forward to where we can take this!

โ ๏ธ No more security updates for WordPress v 4.1 โ 4.6
Just a friendly reminder that WP won’t provide security updates for versions 4.1 through 4.6 anymore starting now.

๐ฎ Bitching about Transparent Screens
A good reminder that interfaces in Sci-Fi play by very different rules than real interfaces. Also, the article is from 2018 but oddly resonates with recent news about Apple’s Liquid Glass UI.

๐ On Freeing all the WP Themes & Plugins
Mika Epstein was the representative for the WP.org plugin repository for a very long time and knows the ins and outs of it like probably no one else. She wrote about why it is a good idea to free all the plugins and themes, how the idea for FAIR came about and why she joined their technical steering committee.

This is great. Bookmarked.
๐ Render a site using WP-CLI
This render command for wp-cli can render a site from the command line and even lets you set certain plugins to inactive for that request. Sounds like a great way to test plugin incompatibilities if they arise. Haven’t tested yet but will definitely give it a go!

๐ Cool Tools by Automattic
Automattic’s Special Projects Team releases some Open Source Tools that they’ve made, like Blocks and Plugins, on their “Cool Tools” page.
๐ Feedback Is Not an Attack
Really enjoyed this post about feedback. How to give it, how to receive it and the ways it can affect people. Seen myself in more than one of the examples.

โก๏ธ Putting the ink into design thinking
A great post about design thinking, UX practices and how not every stage in the design process needs the same fidelity of design. The whole piece is worth reading, but I especially like this quote at the end:
Most of my work is a set of disposables rather than deliverables, and I celebrate this.
Chris How โ Clearleft
This gets so easily forgotten. Experimentation and creating things that will end up being thrown away โ even if it feels counter-intuitive sometimes โ is often the most efficient (if not the only) way to a better outcome.
