Reading List #81

Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹

As I write this, I’m sitting in the train to Milano, Italy where we stay for a few nights before taking a train further south for some much needed beach-time with the family for another week before moving up again to Turin for WordCamp Europe.

Really looking forward to be traveling again and explore some new cities as well as taking some time off with the family.

This also means this reading list will probably be the last until the end of June, or whenever I feel like it.

WordCamp Europe 2024 is only a few days out and I wrote this little post to introduce myself. Looking forward to see old friends again and to meet new faces this year. Let me know if you’re coming as well.

๐Ÿ‘ Reducing CSS Specificity in WordPress 6.6

There’s an interesting discussion and some progress happening in this Github issue about reducing the CSS specificity of all styles in WordPress. This should make overriding styles from themes much easier and more predictable in the future.

I’ve used a similar app a few years ago (can’t remember its name) to block out access to social media and news sites when I want to concentrate. focusedOS sounds like an improved version of that and even lets you block things on your iPhone as well. I’ll definitely try this out for a bit.

๐Ÿบ Brewing better beer with AI?

A group of researchers trained an AI on data from beer tastings and took commercially available beers and asked it how they could make them better. The hope is to find new ways to improve the taste of beers, especially of non-alcoholic ones. I’ve definitely seen worse ideas for the use AI.
