Hey there
The past two weeks or so I spent a lot of time tinkering with Obsidian, thinking about how to structure my note-taking and make it fit the way my brain works. I found a system that works very well so far (for me) and already ported over more than 700 notes and thoughts from all the various places they piled up (and deleted just as many in the process), which finally made them accessible, findable and usable again. There’s still a lot to improve, but I feel much more efficient and organized already.
Other than that, school & kindergarten started for our kids last week, which certainly was a big step, but they both did very well so far!
On 100% user-supported software
Speaking of Obsidian: Steph Ango, the founder of Obsidian, wrote about why they believe in being 100% user-supported instead of VC-funded. Absolutely love this.

Why semantic HTML still matters
Another great article by Jono Alderson, this time about the importance of semantic and structurally sound HTML and why it is much more than just a good practice, but also helping with all kinds of things from maintainability to performance to accessibility to making sense for SEO and AI crawlers.

WordPress for Developers in August 2025
As every month, this post highlights the new stuff for developers that is coming to WordPress. I’m most excited about block bindings that are getting extended to other fields and discussions about new controls in theme.json
to control the user interface in the editor.

Boring Websites
A directory of boring and underrated, yet profitable websites. Like this idea.
Learning to see
Another very well written article – a love letter to our profession as they put it – by iA about how designers first and foremost need to learn to see. And also, why this is not inherently related to taste or aesthetics. If you’re into design, you should read this.
JavaScript’s Date() quiz
This infuriating quiz shows the quirks (and sometimes outright ridiculous stuff) that the JavaScript’s Date() function does.
Atlas of Space
This is just absolutely awesome to play around with and explore our solar system in the browser. Will definitely get this out next time my kids ask me anything about planets.
Music Video – Repetition
Nice music video for the song “Repetition” by Mac Cooper. Found via kottke.
