A black and white photograph of the Paulus Church in Zürich, featuring its distinctive modernist bell tower with arched openings against an overcast sky. The tower rises dramatically from a white church building, with bare winter tree branches visible in the foreground.

The father of a friend of mine passed away unexpectedly and today was the memorial service. It was a sad day – rainy and cold – but the ceremony was very nicely done.

I recently read this article about why you should always go to the funeral, and was reminded of it today – when I really didn’t feel like it and almost backed out. And then I pulled myself together and showed up.

Always go to the funeral.
